Status of Women Committee

The mandate of the Status of Women Committee is to raise awareness about issues that affect women and non-binary members with lived experience as women, and provide programs and services to meet the specific needs of women members. The Committee also provides leadership opportunities for women.

The committee meets on a monthly basis and plans and delivers a variety of events and programs, including:

• A variety of speaker and workshop events specifically for women and non-binary members with lived experience as women
• Our Annual Status of Women Dinner to acknowledge the victims of the Ecole Polytechnique tragedy and the murdered and missing Indigenous women and girls.  
• An annual Women’s Leadership Retreat
• A grade 8 girls community event
• The Take Back The Night event
• The Black Women Members’ Network
• The International Women’s Day Celebration
• A $30,000 Professional Development Fund which can be accessed by members to attend conferences or workshops on women-focused leadership, equity, or
  marginalized group programs
• A Status Donations Fund is a $5,000 fund that can be accessed by PETL members, Peel community members, and organizations to sponsor/donate to events and organizations that are consistent with the goals of the Status of Women Committee
• The Women and Girls in Sports fund is a $2,000 that can be accessed by PETL members, Peel community members, and organizations to sponsor sports events, teams, and organizations that are consistent with the goals of the Status of Women Committee
• The awarding of the Marilyn Lennox Award

In previous years, the Status of Women Committee has organized a Grade 8 Girls’ Career Conference, where Peel District School Board students had an opportunity to explore their strengths and interests and to learn about a variety of careers in workshops given by female role models. As well as, Women in Action Leadership Training program Levels 1 and 2.

PETL members can participate in this active committee by attending meetings and programs, accessing funding, and volunteering at events.
