Join us for an immersive workshop where you’ll explore the intricate motifs of phulkari and create your own unique textile art piece. Participants will learn the skills needed for this beautiful embroidery and also delve into the rich history and cultural significance of phulkari. Participants will use colors of their own choice to create a phulkari art piece. By the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with a finished artwork that can be appliquéd onto a shirt or scarf, displayed in a frame, or hung in an embroidered hoop.
Artist Bio: An Oakville-based artist dedicated to promoting the intricate art of phulkari embroidery has successfully built her business, Dhaga Art, in Canada. Specializing in the revival of phulkari, she actively conducts workshops across the Greater Toronto Area, collaborating with various institutions such as museums, colleges, universities, textile studios, and art galleries. Rafia has collaborated with the Town of Oakville, earning recognition as the selected artist for their community spirit awards. Renowned for her unique custom embroidered hoops, she has carved a niche in the North American market by crafting one-of-a-kind product
